Content Notes Newsletter - Issue No. 3 - Happy? 2021!

Published over 3 years ago • 2 min read

Happy (?) 2021 everyone!

Yeah I know that seems a little odd. But we haven't totally left 2020 in the rearview yet, right?

I'm NOT a big New Year's Resolution guy. Seems like to me, they're primarily made to fail. At least in my case. I've made a ton in the past (almost all of which have been broken).

Instead, I'm adopting a personal mantra for 2021: ACT. DO.

That simple. Nothing more complex. When in doubt ACT. DO.

Most of my content this week has been along these lines.

It's Time to Be Proactive Rather Than Reactive

Part of being proactive is doing. It's getting out in front of everything and controlling the controllable, rather than letting them control you. In this short video, I talk some about setting reachable goals, celebrating small wins, and building momentum.

Being Proactive Builds Compounding Returns

When you're consistently proactive rather than reactive, you start to building compounding returns that build on themselves and eventually cause a landslide. When times are tough, just remember that the work you're putting in today will pay off down the road, even if you can't see that payoff now.

In the financial world, it's the notion of money building over time as interest builds, earning you more, that gains more interest, so on and so forth.

In the branding world, it's the wave of returns you build through consistent, daily action.

If you're willing to spend 30 minutes a day on content creation and make that a part of your daily routine...

Every day.
Over several months, or years.
The returns kick in, and the script flips.

People start to come to you.
You aren't always the one having to do the chasing.

So Along The Lines of Action....

I've been burning the proverbial midnight oil this week working on a few things:

  1. Finishing up editing for my first digital product to be launched in Q1, the "Rapid Traffic Pack"
  2. Working on the Leapfrog Collective website and building out the content there to prep for launch
  3. Reaching out to university club presidents for speaking gigs on personal branding & content strategy
  4. Doing outreach to podcasts I'd like to appear on
  5. And somehow trying to make some money in this climate of tight wallets

Full steam ahead y'all!

The Leapfrog Collective Podcast is Live!!!

I'm thrilled today to have published the inaugural episode of the Leapfrog Collective podcast with one of my favorite LinkedIn people, Nick Bennett!

We discussed a wide variety of topics, including:

* Whether or not he's a New Year's Resolution guy
* Where the Field Marketing industry is headed in 2021
* His personal branding mantra
* How to avoid the "echo chamber" of social media
* How to invest your time for the best ROI on social
* The first step you should take when building a brand
* How college students should approach branding
* And, his thoughts on the 2021 baseball season

Check it out here!

LinkedIn Putting the Clamps Down and Shiny New Objects

I'm not sure about y'all but my LinkedIn post reach is WAY down since the first of the year. Not positive if they've made some sore of algo change but it sure as hell feels like it. Oh well, what else can you do but ride the wave and cross your fingers?

Seems like Clubhouse is the newest shiny object on the block. I've joined, begrudgingly, and will start playing with it soon.If you're on Clubhouse hit me up with your nickname so I can follow you.

Have a great weekend y'all. Wish me luck on not breaking my Dry January streak!

Happy February y'all (well close enough)! I hope you had a great finish to the month and some powerful momentum working in your favor heading deeper in 2021. I came out from the shadows in a few ways this week, and it was nerve-wracking. The irony is, though, when you're willing to take that risk it can lead to some very interesting results. Don't Be Afraid to Tell Your Story, the Full Story, Not the Edited Version I put together a monster slide deck to share with folks on LinkedIn a few...

Happy Sunday y'all! I hope you had an awesome week and have some powerful content and work on tap to round out January and build momentum going into February. This month has been impactful. The currency it's built isn't necessarily the green type, but I'd say it's more important: relationship currency. I talk all the time about the importance of compounding returns, and that seems to be paying off finally. When you nurture relationships of all types with folks you care about most, the return...

Hey y'all! I hope you had a productive week and have some good stuff in the works to round out the last half of January. This week has been an introspective one for me, but also a focused one. The busier I get, the more I'm realizing just how important time blocking, time management and being ruthless about my own efficiency and the way I work has become. For a long time I've considered myself a multi-tasker, but I see more and more that there's no such thing. Working on more than one task at...
